LEROY — Pine River’s boy’s basketball team has been holding its own with a 7-6 record and will be looking for more wins in upcoming games.

Among the reasons for the team’s success has been the play of Lane Ruppert.

Ruppert is a junior in his second varsity season.

“Last year, I felt I got better as the year went on,” Ruppert said “We have four guys back. This year, we want to go far.”

Like last year, Ruppert is a floor general for the Bucks.

“Last year, I focused on bringing the ball up and facilitating, he said. “I want to be more of a threat in scoring. It’s going pretty good. I’m getting better as games go on.”

His midrange shot has been effective.

“We had a slow start but we’re getting better as the year goes on,” Ruppert said. “We have to get better at practice and go strong every day. Our defense has been strong this year.”
