Routine hydrant flushing scheduled for Evart

EVART — As summer draws to an end, the City of Evart Water Department plans to begin flushing the main water system. Employees will begin on Saturday, Sept. 14 and expect to be complete by Monday, Sept. 30.

It is necessary to flush the system to remove the sedimentation that accumulates in the water main throughout the year. Over the course of two weeks, hydrants across town will systematically be opened to scour the lines and remove build-up.

During this time, you may experience rusty or colored water. This is normal during the flushing due to the increased pressure. If you experience rust-colored water, run water through an indoor or outdoor tap for a few minutes or until the water runs clear. Avoid doing laundry during this time, as clothes may become stained. It is a good idea to flush the hot water heater to clear any sedimentation. Be cautious, as the water will be hot.
