Residents can learn about beating the winter blues
BIG RAPIDS — Do you have less energy and feel moody during the winter? If so, you may have seasonal affective disorder (SAD).
Beating the Winter Blues is a free, one-hour class offered as part of Spectrum Health Big Rapids and Reed City Hospitals’ Helping the Whole You speaker series. The series features regular sessions taught by professionals on a variety of topics relevant to individuals' health and well-being.
This month, Spectrum Health social worker Valarie James will help participants explore ways to brighten their days with simple exercises. She also will discuss the benefits of remaining physically active to help overcome the symptoms of SAD, and how to develop a healthier lifestyle to manage stress.
Beating the Winter Blues will take place the following times:
n noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety, located at 435 N. Michigan Ave.; and
n noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Reed City Fire Department, located at 523 Morse St.
Community members of all ages are invited to attend these free presentations. Both sessions will include the same presentation. A free meal is provided and space is limited.
