BIG RAPIDS — While "Ferris" may be in the title, the 2018 Ferris State University Relay for Life is open to anyone who would like to support cancer patients.

"The Relay for Life is a 12-hour fundraising event," said Catherine LoSchiavo, president of Ferris' Colleges Against Cancer chapter and one of the head coordinators of the relay. "It's not a race. Some people walk all night."

The event begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 23, and continues until 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, at the Ewigleben Sports Arena, located at 210 Sports Drive, Big Rapids. Attendees can break out their walking shoes and march around the track at the Wink Arena for this American Cancer Society fundraising event.

There is a $15 registration fee, which goes toward the overall goal of $50,000, along with any donations.

"The $50,000 goal is what's needed to stay in the Mecosta area," LoSchiavo said. "It's the point in which we can stay here. Unfortunately, this is nothing we can control. We want to be back next year.

"We hope the community can come out and see what we are doing, even if it's just to come out and see the bulldog and community support."
