REED CITY/BIG RAPIDS — While it may be a little cold for outdoor walking and running in the near future, race participants may start getting ready to join to the 2018 Wheatlake Festival of Races. Registration is open for racers to sign up for a variety of events set to take place on Saturday, May 19.

Those who register before April 13, will receive a reduced registration fee and are guaranteed a shirt and goody bag. Race proceeds will benefit the Susan P. Wheatlake Cancer and Wellness Fund, which provides resources and materials for use by patients and families facing cancer in our region.

The 2018 event will feature half marathon, 10K and 5K runs; a 5K, or shorter, wellness walk; and a kids dash for children age 10 years and younger. Race day registration takes place at the Bandshell behind Big Rapids Middle School, where all events finish. Buses to the half marathon and 10K start lines also will leave from the Bandshell area. The half marathon begins at the Reed City Depot, while the 10K begins at Paris Park.

Online registration can be filled out at
