REED CITY -- The Reed City Veterans' Park Memorial committee, a subcommittee of the planning commission, will host a car show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 18, at the Reed City Scout building, 223 E. Fifth Ave.

Registration will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Judging will begin at noon, and an awards presentation will take place at 3 p.m. The entry fee for cars is $20.

Awards will be presented in three categories - Mayor's Choice, People's Choice and Veterans' Choice.

"The committee is trying to raise some funds for the memorial park," said committee member Russ Nehmer. "A lot of car shows have been cancelled lately, and we thought this would be good opportunity for Reed City to showcase this event."

Nehmer said they already have more than 40 sponsors and a lot of cars registered for the show.

The event will include a 50/50 drawing, raffles, a bake sale and concessions.

"We have received some really great raffle items from sponsors," Nehmer said. "It is going to be a really great event."

Radio station Sunshine 106.8 will be on hand to provide music and interviews from the Scout Building.

Concessions will be available, as well as water donated by Ice Mountain, Nehmer said.

Restrooms will be available inside the Scout building. Patrons will be asked to follow social distancing guidelines. Masks will be available when entering the building, and limited capacity will be enforced.

"We are asking that no one congregate inside the building," Nehmer said. "Tents will be available for shade. Restrooms will be sanitized routinely throughout the day, and the concession stand will follow recommended sanitation procedures."

Proceeds from the event will go to the Veterans' Memorial Park fund.
