Reed City to host Rock the Beat fundraiser at football game
REED CITY — When the Reed City High School football team takes on the Chippewa Hills High School on Friday, the night will be about something much more than athletics.
To honor former high school teacher Angie Pontz, the school will host the second annual Red Out Rock the Beat fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Rock the Red T-shirts will be available for $12 at the event for event-goers to wear during the game.
During half time of the game, individuals will release lanterns into the sky in honor of lost loved ones. Banners with pictures of loved ones will hang on the fence at the stadium during the game. The event also will include a raffle with many prizes donated by local businesses. All proceeds will go to the American Heart Association.
Last year, just days after Pontz’ death, community members came together during the Reed City vs. Chip Hills competition to benefit the American Heart Association and raised $6,134.54. Organizers hope to top that this year.
