Reed City teachers awarded grants

REED CITY — Two Reed City Area Public Schools teachers have received a grant from Great Lakes Energy to help further student education.

Second grade teacher Tracy Hansen at G. T. Norman Elementary School received a grant of $300 from toward the purchase of two Kindle Fires for an elementary reading project. Middle school math teacher, Jeremy DeVos, was given $1,700 to provide his students with a number of Texas Instruments Nspire CX handheld units for advanced calculations in the classroom. Both projects are to be implemented during the 2013-14 school year.

For the second year in a row, Great Lakes Energy awarded just over $16,000 in grants to 13 schools serving students whose parents receive power from GLE. The cooperative’s association with Touchstone Energy makes the classroom grants possible and underscores GLE’s commitment to local communities.

"Touchstone Energy cooperatives lead the way in being involved with the communities they serve and looking out for their members," said Shari Culver, GLE’s vice president of communications and marketing. "This school grant program demonstrates GLE’s commitment to its members through enriching education possibilities for their children."
