Reed City players earn honors
REED CITY — Three Reed City baseball players earned all-league honors from the Central State Activities Association Gold Division this season.
Sophomore Payton Hansen and senior Hunter Diehl were on the first team and senior Brandon Wirth was on the honorable mention list.
Diehl batted .286 with two home runs and 19 RBIs. He had a 6-1 pitching record with 2.478 ERA. He smacked a home run in the final home doubleheader.
“He was our most improved player and led us on the mound and also helped us offensively,” Reed City coach Marty Shaffer said. “He pitched well throughout the whole season and has very good pitching numbers based on what our record is.”
Hansen batted .312 and earned the team’s MVP award. He had a pitching win over Gaylord St. Mary’s, the 2019 Division 4 state runner-up and struck out 10.
“He ended up being the catalyst on offense and defense,” Shaffer said. “He caught in all but four of our games. He batted in our 3 or 4 hole in our lineup and had the second highest batting average on the team.”
