REED CITY — It’s been good weather to be outdoors in recent weeks for athletes.

But for volleyball players preparing for the beginning of their season on Aug. 8, being indoors has been just fine.

Volleyball practices start on Aug. 8. Coach Don Patterson’s Reed City players were active last week with open gyms and tournament action at Ferris.

Alison Duddles is in her junior season for Reed City, entering her third varsity year.

“It’s gone pretty good,” she said of her last two varsity seasons. “We’ve gotten a lot better in my hitting.”

She was a middle hitter last year and is set to be a middle hitter again for Reed City. She hopes to improve on her passing.

“I’ll be a lot stronger as a hitter than I have the past two years,” Duddles said.

Duddles has been busy with open gyms for volleyball and shootarounds for basketball.

“We have a lot of new players,” Duddles said. “We’re a young team this year. I think we’ll have better chemistry than we’ve had in the past.”

At 5 feet 11 inches, Duddles is the tallest player on the team as she was last season.

Reed City opens the season at the Ludington Invitational on Aug. 17 and has a road tri-meet with Evart and Harrison on Aug. 22.
