Reed City baseball team improves to 7-0
REED CITY — Reed City’s baseball team will be at the Sanford Meridian Invitational on Saturday and at Chippewa Hills on Tuesday.
The Coyotes improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Central State Activities Association Gold Division with 11-3 and 15-0 wins over Grant on Tuesday, April 24
The second game ended after four innings.
“We started slow in the first game,” Reed City coach Marty Shaffer said. “I don’t know if we’ve been sleeping or else we haven’t been tested. The rain held off for us. We were able to get the conference game in. It was good to see us turn the ball around a little bit.”
Brandon Wirth took the win in the first game, striking out three and allowed three runs. Hunter Morison had three hits and two RBIs, Stephen Shewan had two hits and one RBI, Cody Kailing had two hits and one RBI, Brandon Major had a double and single and Jeffery Phenix had a double.
“We started out slow in the first game,” Kailing said. “We came back in the second game and scored a bunch of runs. We hit the ball well.”
Morrison threw a one-hitter in the second game and fanned seven batters. Phenix had two home runs including a grand slam, and six RBIs. Morrison had two hits, scored twice, and had two RBIs. Simon Moreno had two hits and scored three times. Morrison and Kailing had doubles.
Reed City 10-5, Gaylord St. Mary 5-9
REED CITY — Reed City won the first game 10-5, but lost the second 9-5 in a home non-league twinbill on Thursday.
Payton Hansen started on the mound and went four innings in the opener. Morrison pitched two and got the win.
Simon Moreno had two hits and an RBI. Kailing hit a grand slam home run and had six RBIs.
Hunter Diehl started on the mound in the second game and gave up six earned runs in his one inning of work. Phenix and Kailing pitched two innings each and Shewan pitched the final inning. Kailing and had two strikeouts and Diehl got the loss.
Moreno had two hits, Phenix had two home run with four RBIs. Kailing also had a hit.
