REED CITY — Issues concerning safety and security within Reed City Hall will be corrected in the near future.

According to Reed City Manager Ron Howell, city council members approved maintenance and repairs for the building during a meeting on July 21. Safety upgrades to windows and hand rails inside and outside of city hall will take place, as well as securing the internet server which has the potential to be easily accessed by unauthorized individuals. The cost to perform the changes will cost under $3,800, Howell said.

In other business, council members:

  • approved a request from Yoplait to pave the area of the former Osceola Inn. Howell said the demolition of the inn required some asphalt to be removed. Now, Yoplait wants to repave the area and a part of the area owned by the city, at no cost to the city.
  • Approved a motion to allow fireworks for Reed City Area Public Schools homecoming celebration, and
  • approved a request to close West Upton Avenue between Chestnut and Higbee Streets for the Great American Crossroads Celebration car show, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16.
