Reed City Fire Department trains with new Lucas II device

REED CITY — Members of the Reed City Fire Department recently completed training on their newest piece of equipment, a Lucas II chest compression system.

According to Trevor Kinsey, president of the Reed City Firefighters Foundation, the machine helps perform continuous chest compressions for when it isn’t possible for a person to do.

Foundation Vice President Thomas Updike was instrumental in obtaining the unit, as were all of those who volunteered and participated in fundraisers, Kinsey said.

“This unit is the first of its kind in Osceola County,” Kinsey said via email. “We would like to have it available to other agencies as needed, by request. Osceola County EMS will be trained in Lucas 2 operation in order to increase the quality and effectiveness of care given to patients and aid in the interoperability between EMS and the fire department.”
