REED CITY -- The Veterans' Memorial Park Committee, a subcommittee of the Reed City Planning Commission, hosted a fundraiser car show at the Reed City BSA Troop 74 Scout Building on Saturday, July 18. A total of 44 classic cars were on display. The event included food, raffles and trophy presentations.

Mayor's Choice award went to John Madges -- '57 Chevy Bel Aire, Teal; People's Choice award went to Pink Hosford -- '57 Chevy Bel Aire, Cherry Red; Veterans' Choice award went to Dan Sweetland -- '70 AMC AMX; Kids' Choice award went to Troy snider -- '62 M952 Military truck; Showman's Choice award went to Kelly Welling -- '38 Hudson; and Best Custom award went to Jeff Boochaed -- '36 Plymouth ZDR Touring.

Proceeds from the car show will go toward the construction of the Veterans Memorial Park.

Committee member Russ Nehmer said they will continue to do fundraisers and work toward getting grants to raise the capital to break ground on the park.

"We will look at selling brick pavers, memorial benches, lamp posts and other items to support the park," Nehmer said. " A centerpiece of the park will be a sculpted oak tree that will have military dog tags of citizens of Osceola County that served, which can also be purchased."
