OSCEOLA COUNTY — As this winter’s early, intense flu season causes donors to cancel their appointments, the American Red Cross is seeing a lower-than-expected turnout at scheduled blood drives. As the number of people with the flu grows, there may be a decrease in the number of healthy blood donors available to sustain the blood supply.

“The Red Cross urges healthy donors to keep their appointments to donate blood in the coming weeks,” said Jim Flickema, CEO of the Great Lakes Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross. “If they fall ill, we encourage them to try and find someone healthy to donate in their place.”

The following blood drives are scheduled in Osceola County:

● 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Feb. 4, at Pine River High School, located at 17445 Pine River School Roadin LeRoy

● 12 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 20 at Evart United Methodist Church, located at 619 Cherry St. in Evart.

To schedule an appointment to donate please call 1-(800) RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit  redcrossblood.org for more information.
