Preparations under way for Evart Chamber annual flea market

EVART — It’s finally starting to warm up a little bit, and people exhausted by a long, cold winter are looking forward to a season of spring and summer fun. One of the “draws” to getting out of the house on any given summer weekend are yardsales throughout the area. Luckily for yardsale aficionados in the Osceola County area, Evart is home to the biggest and most continually growing yardsale attractions in this part of the state — the Evart Chamber of Commerce’s annual Flea Market and Yard Sale. The fifth annual flea market and yardsale will be open to the public May 24 and 25 at the Evart Air Industrial Park - the Friday and Saturday of the Memorial Day weekend. “We are already getting busy,” reported market co-organizer Cathy Britz. “We already have people, both venders and customers, calling and asking for information. “This has gotten to be something that people really look forward to.” Well more than ore than 80 vendors are expected. They will be set up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Community members, out-of-towners and those who just happen to be driving by on U.S. 10 are invited to browse and purchase a large selection of trinkets, knick knacks and that perfect present you just can’t find anywhere else. “Venders pay a flat $20 for the ‘lot’ on which they set up,” explained Britz. “Last year, we had 84 people with a wide variety of goods and items for sale.” This year, organizers expect as many if not more venders and booths. Some 25 ‘lots’ have already been ordered. There is plenty of room. Sites are ten feet wide, but those setting up can ask for more than one spot — and the sites are very deep. “A lot of people have set this weekend aside for return visits to our community,” said Britz. “It is a good place for both sellers and buyers.” There will be plenty of parking for customers - the same expansive parking that has been marked off in years past. The event is sponsored by the Evart Chamber of Commerce, and planners are expecting thousands of people to fill the outdoor market place over the course of the two-day sale. All proceeds raised from vendor fees at the event will go toward support of the Evart fireworks. Vendors interested in selling items at the event can visit
to fill out a form. For more information contact either Donna Willis at (231) 734-2023 or Cathy Britz at (231) 499-8655. This is going to be the biggest set up of its type and style in the Osceola County this year. Organizers hope to see annual yardsale continue to grow.
