Razzasque Days festival around the corner
LEROY — The village of LeRoy is gearing up for its summer festival that may be hard to pronounce, but easy to enjoy.
"It's like a homecoming for everyone from this small town," said Razzasque Days Board of Directors President Lori Servello. "It's an annual event people look forward to each year."
Razzasque Days will take place from Friday, July 11, through Sunday, July 13, in the village. This year's theme is "The Wonders of Michigan," and will feature a variety events for the entire family.
Friday will host the Kid's Parade and the drawing for the prince and princess at noon, a duct tape fashion show at 3:30 p.m. in LeRoy Village Memorial Park, the Junior Miss LeRoy competition at 6 p.m., a corn hole tournament at 7 p.m. and fireworks at dusk.
On Saturday, there will be a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. at the LeRoy United Methodist Church, a 5K at 8:15 a.m., grand parade at 10:30 a.m., chicken BBQ at 11 a.m., car show at 11:30 a.m., horseshoe tournament at noon and a live performance by Mission One: Artisan Ocean at 2 p.m.
Sunday hosts the Firecracker Golf Open at 1 p.m. at Lakewood on the Green. The four-person scramble is $50 per player, with lunch included.
Concessions, vendors, giant inflatables, carnival bingo hosted by the VFW Post No. 10770, a splash tank, an entertainment tent and more also will take place during the weekend.
Servello said Razzasque Days keeps the village thriving and all of the proceeds from the event filter back into parts of the community, such as the fire department, library, youth camps and local programs. The event takes a lot of work and time to be successful.
"We're always looking for volunteers," Servello said. "It takes a lot of manpower to pull off a weekend."
