REED CITY — The Reed City Area Public Schools district has a new superintendent.

Myra Munroe, the assistant superintendent at Edwardsburg Public Schools since 2011, will begin her tenure as the district's top administrator on July 24, according to interim-superintendent Dean McGuire.

"The board has offered Myra Munroe the position and she has accepted," he said.

McGuire said board members were very impressed with Munroe during two separate interview sessions on June 27 and June 29.

"We're excited to have her," he said. "She interviewed extremely well and her background is very strong educationally. She has been an assistant superintendent for the last six years under a superintendent who has been there for 20 years. She learned a lot as an assistant superintendent and gained a lot of experience.

"We're excited she will be coming here."

Prior to her serving as an assistant superintendent, Munroe was an instructional specialist and Reading First facilitator at the state level for six years. She also served as an elementary principal at Central Lake for nine years. Munroe also has been an elementary classroom and special education teacher.

The search for a new superintendent began May 18, when Tim Webster announced he was retiring.

Michigan Association of School Boards Search Consultant Rodney Green assisted the RCAPS Board of Education during the search process.
