RCAPS board approves hiring new staff

REED CITY — The Reed City Area Public Schools Board of Education added a few new members to the coyote team Wednesday night as the board approved hiring seven staff members.

New to G.T. Norman Elementary this year will be Erika Becker, Kayli Eastling and Heather Dozier, while Carissa McDonald was hired to fill a seventh-grade math teacher position at the middle school. For the high school, Dan Underhill was hired to fill a special education position and April Szymanski was hired as the special education interventionist. Board members also hired Becky Jo Wheeler.

Board members also approved fall coaches for the 2017-18 school year, including Don Patterson, varsity volleyball; Chris Schmerhorn, junior varsity volleyball; Susan Saladin, varsity cross country; Marcy Hammond, eighth-grade cross country; Doug Emington, varsity boys soccer; Monty Price, varsity football; Clayton Sims and Scott Shankel, varsity football assistants; Dan Pelton, Eric Grannis, Corey Prudhomme and Dan Underhill, junior varsity football.

The list of approved coaches also included volunteers Ryan Ward and Sean Samuels, football; Kim Hunt, boys soccer; Kerry Schmerhorn and Allison Schmerhorn, volleyball; and Rich Saladin, cross country.
