RC Library holds fruit of the vine fundraiser
REED CITY — With 2012 right around the corner, Reed City Library’s plan to move into a new more spacious building this summer draws nearer to reality.
The renovation of this new building will hopefully give the library up to 12,000 additional square feet. A more attractive layout would include a larger community room, areas to quietly read and more workspace for the staff.
All this renovation comes with a heavy price. That’s where the library’s fundraising committee has been working very hard to come up with new ideas to get the community involved. After all, this library will be greatly benefiting the community.
Along with the small piggy banks throughout town and any private donations, there have been many fundraising events for the community to participate in to show their support.
Several book/rummage sales have brought in some funds as well as making room for new books.
The Nestle Inn hosted a celebrity server night, donating a percentage of every meal.
Bennigans also participated in similar event.
One recent event brought the world of wine tasting to Reed City.
Hosted by the Moose Lodge, the wine tasting was paired with a silent auction and bake sale. For a donation of $15, each person would get eight samples of wine.
About 50 people came to check out the selection.
Christy Fowler, a representative of Fabiano Brothers selected 12 wines, including two wines from right here in Michigan.
The whole event was a success thanks to the efforts of the fundraising committee, the Moose and the community members that donated items for the auction. The combined proceeds of the silent auction, bake sale and ticket sales reached more than $2,000, all of which will go straight to the library project.
The event was a wonderful example of how a community can come together to support an important project.
Members of the fundraising committee are still hard at work coming up with more events to keep the community involved. They welcome anyone who would like to get involved and help in any way they can. Just contact the Reed City Library.
Coming up soon will be the Second Annual Jingle Bell Walk. Put on your bells and jingle all the way as you get some great exercise walking the halls of RCHS.
