Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched on May 6 to Hibma Road near 200th Avenue, of Burdell Township in Osceola County on a report of an 80-year-old male who is a resident of Tustin that had not returned home from picking mushrooms.

Family members indicated the 80 year old male had left his nearby residence at 10 a.m. and now eight hours later, had not returned home.

Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputies and Osceola County K-9 arrived on scene and initiated a search of the several mile area consisting of hardwoods, swamps and fields.

Numerous agencies were requested to assist with the search as the temperature was dropping and darkness was fast approaching. After approximately four hours the male was located near a swamp approximately 1.5 miles north east of his residence.

Due to the recent rain fall and the extremely rough terrain, rescue personnel and responding officers carried the 80-year- old male for approximately 3/4 of a mile to an awaiting four-wheel drive rescue vehicle.

The rescue vehicle transported the 80 year old male to an awaiting ambulance where he was transported to Cadillac Mercy Hospital where he was admitted in stable condition.
