EVART TWP. — A Detroit man is dead after an apparent drug overdose Tuesday in Osceola County.

Osceola County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched at 3:09 a.m. on July 18 to a residence near 5 Mile Road and 95th Avenue in Evart Township for a report of a possible overdose involving illegal drugs.

Osceola County EMS and Evart Fire and Rescue also responded to the call. However, the 41-year-old man did not recover.

The incident is under investigation by the sheriff's office and the Traverse Narcotics Team, with toxicology results pending for the presence of carfentanil-laced heroin.

Carfentanil is 10,000 times stronger than morphine and 100 times more potent than fentanyl, according to the National Institutes for Health.

The name of the man is being withheld pending family notification.
