LEROY — Pine River Area Schools will kick off the new school year with the annual open house from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the kindergarten through third grade building.

Students and parents are invited to the open house to receive schedules, locker assignments, complete required paperwork and meet teachers and staff. School starts Tuesday, Sept. 6.

On Thursday, Sept. 1, the the district will host a community-wide cookout and tailgate party from 3:45 to 6 p.m. The cookout coincides with a football double-header. The junior varsity and varsity teams are playing Morley Stanwood, with the J.V. game starting at 4 p.m. and the varsity game thereafter. The varsity soccer team also will host Gladwin, with the match starting at 5 p.m.

During the cookout, members of the community are invited to visit the cafeteria for a free Polish dog or hot dog as well as receive a free pass to enter all of the sporting events.

“We are just really excited to get the school year going again and meet and greet our students and parents — old and new — at the open house,” said Superintendent Matt Lukshaitis. “The Tailgate Party is going to be amazing this year.

“We really want to say thank you to our community for supporting the bond in May and the operating millage in August,” he added. “Thanks to this fantastic endorsement, the future is bright at Pine River.”

Residents who are new to the area or those wishing to examine Schools of Choice, are asked to visit the central office, located at 17445 Pine River Road, just west of U.S. 131 in LeRoy.
