LEROY — Jayce Methner’s strong season as a sophomore cross country runner for Pine River hit another high note on Tuesday (Oct. 16) when he placed 11th in the final Highland Conference meet of the season.

Methner’s time was 18:25.5, a personal record. He’s been the Bucks’ top runner most of the year. He improved his time two minutes from last season.

“I improved a lot during track season from running a lot more,” Methner said, adding the first mile is usually the strongest part of his race. “I need to improve on the middle part of the race.”

Methner would like to get his time to 17:30 before the season ends. Pine River finished fifth for the boys in the seven-team field.

“We’re young but we’ll be better in a couple of years,” Methner said.

McBain was first at 36 and Evart second at 72. Pine River was 100th.

Also for the Bucks, Phil Rigling was 13th (18:39.9), Kei Deguchi 22nd (19:29.8), Cole Hills 29th (20:06.2) and Kaden Darrow 30th (20:11.8).

For Evart, Nathan Woods was third (17:09.09), Austin Hamilton fourth (17;31.09), Tanner Ryan 19th (19:17), Kinkade Dubreuil 21st (19;27.5) and Richard Foster 28th (19:55).

McBain won the girls race. Pine River was third and Evart sixth.

For Pine River, Kelsi Charles (22:23.59) was 10th, Payton Fulmerhouser 14th (22:49.5). Dallas Snider 32nd (25:54.3), Abbey Dennis 33rd (26:25.3), and Kendra Montague 34th (26:25.8).

For Evart, Sophia Scott was 17th (23:32.9), Laina Payne 22nd (23:59.2), Kyleigh Burhans 38th (2750.2), Rilee Clark 39th (28:11) and Rose Clark 47th (30:10.80).
