Pine River hires bus driver, custodian
LEROY — Pine River Area Schools Board of Education approved a motion to hire two new employees at a Nov. 10 meeting.
Andrew Treiber has been hired as a bus driver for the district, and Joni Reece was hired as the middle/high school custodian.
In his superintendent's report, Matt Lukshaitis discussed moisture issues under the gymnasium floor, causing buckling and other damage. The issue will be assessed to determine if the district can file an insurance claim.
During a curriculum showcase, students from Paul Chilson's fifth grade social studies class displayeddioramas depicting a variety of Native American habitats. The students discussed the tribes' culture, living conditions, the area of the U.S. they called home, and what the tribe used to survive off the land.
In other business, the board approved:
- A motion to create a literary coach position, which is expected to be posted during winter break.
- A motion to accept a bid from Deverman Building Services for snow removal at the middle/high school. Rates depend on time spent and inches of snowfall.
- A motion to increase support staff substitute pay rates to $12.15 and hour for all classifications, and an increase to $12.52 an hour for paraprofessionals.
