MCBAIN —Pine River fell to 4-1 with Friday’s Highland Conference 18-7 loss to McBain.

McBain scored on a 72-yard run by Gavin Sieland in the first quarter but the kick was no good. Sasha Huffman scored for Pine River and got the kick for a 7-6 lead.

McBain scored 12 points in the third quarter.

Elijah Lewis rushed for 60 yards to lead Pine River. Luke Hill rushed for 51 yards and passed for 28.

“It was kind of a frustrating game,” Pine River coach Terry Martin said. “We made too many mistakes to win a Highland Conference game. We had some very untimely turnovers and penalties. Overall, we played on defense but gave up four big plays. That was the story of the night.

“We were without Brock Nelson, so they were really keying on Elijah.”

Nelson is day-to-day with a concussion.

Pine River is at undefeated Lake City on Friday.

“They haven’t lost a regular-season game since 2016,” Martin said. “They return a lot of guys from last year. We’ll have to play flawless football to win that game.”
