Pine River announces 2015 senior scholars

LEROY — As the class of 2015 nears its graduation date, seniors prepare to take the next step of their lives.

The senior scholars from Pine River High School were recently introduced to the community.


  • Kassy Nelson has earned a 4.0 grade point average. She is the daughter of Marvin and Roberta Nelson of Tustin. In her high school years, Kassy has been involved in Student Council, NHS and Principal’s Council, as well as being a member of her church group and the Feeding America organization. Kassy has played AAU Basketball for three years and played varsity softball as a freshman and sophomore, varsity volleyball from grades nine through 11 and varsity basketball all four high school years. Kassy will be attending Saginaw Valley State University to pursue a degree in pre-medicine. She has also signed to play women’s basketball at the university.
  • Mary Ware also has earned a 4.0 grade point average. She is the daughter of Lawrence and Ines Ware of LeRoy. Mary has been an active member of the band program participating in marching, jazz, concert and pep bands and being a part of solo and ensemble. Mary is involved with Michigan Ambassadors of Music and National Honor Society, serving as secretary of the organization. Mary competes in both discus and shot for the track and field team. She also is a member of Genesis and GPYG youth group. Mary plans to attend Hastings College in Nebraska to study wildlife biology and also participate in the track and band programs.


  • Benjamin Rigling has a 3.986 grade point average. He is the son of Kris and Tim Rigling of Tustin. Ben has participated in wrestling, cross-country and track becoming a two-time state qualifier in both cross-country and track earning all-state honors in track last season. Ben has also been in band and participates in his church youth group. Ben will attend Michigan Technical University to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.
