Painting in the Park

REED CITY – Rambadt Park was filled with color, becoming an outdoor art gallery as the first Art in the Park session kicked off on Saturday.

Paint was the focus for the first session of Art in the Park with watercolor, acrylic and homemade puffy paint inspiring the artists gathered for a few hours of creation.

Donna Wheeler, coordinator of the event, and Kaytlyn Sheldon, her assistant, said they were very pleased with the overwhelming response.

“We had more people come today than what we probably saw all of last summer.  I’m happy to see so many new faces,” Wheeler said.

Wheeler explained numbers were low for last summer’s events, a possible problem for the program which is funded by local sponsors as a part of the Music and Art Summer Program.  By 9:30 a.m. there were almost 30 participants gathered to paint.

Participants could choose the project they wanted to complete, and some were able to finish more than one.

Many participants chose to paint with acrylic on canvas. Dozens of wooden picture frames were painted as well.

Each artist excitedly showed off their creations as Wheeler and Sheldon walked around to all the tables, giving nothing but praise for every project.

Anyone interested in unleashing their inner artist is welcome to join the next session of Art in the Park from 9 to 11 a.m. on June 30 in Rambadt Park. The next session’s theme will be working with paper.
