PRAS staff, students, community, take part in fundraiser

LEROY — Hundreds of spectators gathered at Pine River High School on May 2 to view district staff, students and community members try their hand at Donkey Ball.

The amusing event was a fundraiser hosted by the PRAS Parent-Teacher Group, which helps raise money for the district's elementary school students. The funds raised from the Donkey Ball games will help pay for field trips and busing for those trips, school activities and requests from teachers.

PRAS PTG President Heidi Hayes said the idea came from her time as a student at Reed City Area Schools, which organized the event for years. She said she believed it would be a great way to raise money and promote family time for the Pine River district.

"We have a much greater turnout than I could have imagined," Hayes said, looking at the hundreds in the gymnasium bleachers. "We had about 250 tickets sold during pre-sale alone."

The animals arrived via Buckey Donkey Ball, from Orient, Ohio.
