PRAS honors veterans during homecoming celebration
LEROY — There will be much to celebrate on Friday, Oct. 3 at Pine River High School during the homecoming football game against the Evart Wildcats.
At halftime, the homecoming court will be announced and the new king and queen will be crowned. Senior athletes and band members will be recognized for their years of dedication and contributions to their programs.
The game also marks the celebration of a tradition held between Evart and Pine River — the Armed Forces Tribute game. Going back several years, the two schools have taken the rivalry off the field in a friendly competition to raise money to support veterans. This year the tradition continues.
Members of the VFW will present the colors prior to the game, as both the Pine River and Evart High School bands combine for a musical tribute honoring our veterans. Throughout the game a collection helmet will be passed through both sets of fans to collect donations which will be presented to the local VFW and Wounded Warrior Project.
The winning team will take home a traveling trophy to be displayed in their school until next year’s match up.
Following the game, the PRHS and EHS Bands will present their 2014 shows in a post game performance to end this celebratory night.
Everyone is invited to attend to pay tribute to the brave veterans and help contribute to this more than worthy cause. The game time is at 7 p.m., with the presentation of the colors at approximately 6:45 p.m.
