Osceola County toddler dies in auto accident

OSCEOLA COUNTY — Police are investigating an accident that killed a 2-year-old boy on Sunday.

Michigan State Police troopers were called at 9:38 p.m. to a home in Osceola County’s Middle Branch Township, where the boy had been back over by a pickup truck.

The child, identified as Carter-James Barron, was standing behind the truck in the driveway without an adult present. The child’s father, troopers and Osceola County Emergency Medical Services personnel administered first aid to the child, but he died as a result of his injuries.

The identity of the driver has not been released, but Sgt. Joshua Lator said the driver was not a member of the boy’s family. Criminal charges could be forthcoming. Troopers believe alcohol might have been a factor in the accident.
