OSCEOLA COUNTY — Schools and communities across Osceola County paid tribute to men and women who have served their country during a number of Veterans Day ceremonies.

Residents of Evart lined the sidewalk around Guyton Park to show their respect for those who have served during an annual ceremony hosted by members of VFW Post No. 7979. Led by VFW Chaplain Dan Howe, the veterans raised the American flag, said a prayer and fired a gun salute. Following the event, veterans welcomed the public to enjoy doughnuts and coffee at the post and also hosted a flag-folding ceremony at Evart High School.

"It feels good to see everyone out here, especially the students," said Post Commander Dave Brickey following the ceremony. "Hopefully we can reach out to the kids and help them realize they've won the lottery by being born in this country."

School districts including Pine River Area Schools and Reed City Area Public Schools also participated in showing their respect, with various assemblies and ceremonies commemorating local veterans.
