Osceola County accident claims life of man, woman

LINCOLN TWP. — A three-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon in Osceola County resulted in two deaths.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Mount Pleasant Post were dispatched at 12:56 p.m. to the accident at the intersection of Mackinaw Trail and 11 Mile Road in Lincoln Township.

According to a news release from police, a 2007 Ford Focus driven by a 68-year-old Lake woman was stopped eastbound on 11 Mile Road at the stop sign at the Mackinaw Trail intersection. The woman then drove across Mackinaw Trail into the path of a 2007 Dodge Caliber traveling northbound on Mackinaw Trail.

The two vehicles then crashed, and ran into a third vehicle, a 2009 Chevy Aveo stopped on 11 Mile Road at the intersection.

The Lake woman died at the scene of the accident, while her front seat passenger, a 70-year-old man, was critically injured. He was transported by Osceola County EMS to Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital, where he died a short time later.

Two occupants from the other vehicles also were transported by EMS to the hospital and were released.

The crash remains under investigation. Troopers were assisted on scene by Lincoln Township Fire/Rescue and Osceola County EMS.
