Osceola County Community Foundation auction slated for May 7

OSCEOLA COUNTY — Area residents and visitors looking to give back in a big way have one of the best opportunities to do so at this year's annual Osceola County Community Foundation dinner and auction.

"I love seeing all of the support from those who donate items to those who attend," said Larry Emig, assets development director for the foundation. "It's a good event to kick off the beginning of the warmer months and to reconnect with some of the people who come back to Michigan after winter."

This year's event is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, within the community building at the Osceola County 4-H FFA Fairgrounds. Social hour, a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres will kick off the evening, followed by dinner from Pere Marquette Catering at 6:15 p.m. The live auction, featuring Andy Lattimore as auctioneer, will begin at about 7:15 p.m.

"We obviously have a generous crew of people willing to donate items," Emig said. "There are a lot of things this year to meet everyone's needs."

Big-ticket items include tickets to Detroit Tiger games, a Tim McGraw concert at the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mount Pleasant and to an August race at the Michigan International Speedway. Getaway packages also are up for grabs, including a stay at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, Great Wolf Lodge and Mackinac Island, or tickets on the U.S.S. Badger to Wisconsin for a two-night stay and dining gift certificate. Those who love sports memorabilia will have the opportunity to big on a signed Red Wings jersey.

Smaller and potentially more affordable items are also on the bidding block, including gift packages and certificates to and from area businesses.

About $19,000 was raised last year, and Emig said though any amount would be appreciated, he is aiming for $20,000 this year.

Tickets to attend are $35 each. Proceeds from the event assist the foundation with its administration cost as well as fund future grants, Emig added.

The OCCF, which is an affiliate of the Fremont Area Community Foundation, has given more than $1.8 million to scholarships and grants that support and enhance residents, students, areas and organizations in Osceola County since its establishment.
