Organizer encourages participation in upcoming WISE golf outing

REED CITY — Community members will come together later this month for a day on the golf course to raise money for a local organization dedicated to helping survivors of violence.

The Women’s Information Service, Inc. (WISE) Golf Outing will be held on Wednesday, July 20, at Spring Valley Golf Course in Reed City. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with golfing starting at 9:30 a.m.

The golf outing is an annual fundraiser benefiting WISE, a nonprofit agency that provides advocacy and support services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

“It’s a general fundraiser,” explained Beth Martz, co-chair of the golf outing. “WISE is a nonprofit and there are a lot of things that aren’t funded by grants, so this will cover those costs.”

Teams of four will compete in the scramble-style outing. There are still openings for teams, with a registration deadline of Monday, July 11.

Lunch and dinner are provided and included in the registration cost. There will also be various raffle prizes.

“We have a number of nice raffle items, a quilt from Kay Crew, Wal-mart is providing a grill package and Pere Marquette is giving us two boxes of steaks to raffle off,” Martz said. “Plus there are plenty other small raffle items.”

WISE serves Mecosta, Osceola and Newaygo counties. By participating in the outing, residents support services in all three areas, Martz said.

“This benefits everyone,” Martz said. “It’s a fun day of golf, but it’s also an important way to support WISE and the programs they offer. It’s a way to have a good time and support a good cause.”
