OCCF auction raises $14,000

EVART – More than $14,000 was raised for the Osceola County Community Foundation at the organization’s third annual auction.

Though the event earnings were down slightly from last year, organizers deemed the night a success. A total of 178 people came to the event.

“We were very pleased with the turnout and donations we received,” said Larry Emig, Osceola County Community Foundation director of outreach.

More than 100 items were auctioned off at the event Thursday, including authentic autographed Henrik Zetterberg and Nicklas Lidstrom Red Wings jerseys, a women’s watch from Roger’s Jewelers, a rocking chair, Tullymore golf package for two, coupon for two free Pompeii’s pizzas each month, a weekend getaway package and much more.

The very last item up for bid was two tickets to a Tigers baseball game and a signed Prince Fielder baseball valued at $150. The package went for $325.

During the past 20 years, the foundation has awarded 275 scholarships to students from Evart, Marion, Pine River and Reed City public schools for a total of $256,400. The foundation also has distributed 459 community grants totaling $862,934, for a grand total of more than 1.1 million dollars.

Summer musical programs in Reed City and Evart, playground construction projects, recycle center equipment and many more local programs and organizations have been funded by the foundation.

“Thank you for donations and support,” Emig said to community members at the event. “Our success in the community foundation will improve the quality of life in Osceola County.”

After an unknown issue led to a blackout in the building with four items left to be auctioned, emergency lights and cell phones lit the community room and guests left in the dark.
