REED CITY – While their children watched a holiday movie, parents of preschool through fifth-grade students at G.T. Norman Elementary School learned about “meals on a budget” during a free parent workshop on Dec. 4.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan sponsored the event, which was led by Kim Lombard, a registered dietitian from Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital. Lombard gave a short presentation and then guided parents through chopping vegetables for a soup recipe they were given. Each attendee received a packet of healthy, inexpensive meal ideas, and a few won prizes.

After the movie for the children, they could visit with Santa and his elf, who passed out goodie bags and Christmas books. Dinner also was served at the end of the workshop.
