The talk of the town among Norman Elementary school girls this past weekend was the third annual Me and My Guy Dance.

Organized by PTO members, including chairs of the event, Nicki Hatfield and Heather Hamner, the dance was a great success. This special night is open to girls in kindergarten through fifth grade. They invite the special men in their lives including dads, uncles, grandpas or family friends to enjoy a fun filled evening of dancing.

Since it has traditionally been a mom’s privilege to go on field trips or to school parties, this is an event that is set aside just for them. Of course, the girls don’t mind being pampered with manicures and hairdos, then dressing up for the night.

“I love coming to these with my dad. It’s time for me to just hang with him. I’m so sad this is my last one, but I have enjoyed them so much and I think he has too,” says Jenna Johnson, a fifth grader.

Steve Wessels and Steve Stephens provided the rocking music that kept the dance floor filled. Many brave dancers even got out there for the limbo and the chicken dance. But there were also a lot of loving moments caught with a slow dance or two.

The night wasn’t all dancing though, as adults mingled with each other to talk and girls giggled with friends throughout the night. A keepsake photo was available from Yeoman Photography as well as a craft for girls to make so they could have something to take home.

Overall, it was a night full of fun, dancing, and a lot of smiles made possible by a lot of volunteers. Most of all, it was a night full of memories for these girls … memories of time spent with someone special.
