Name of Mud Lake drowning victim released, toxicology reports ordered

OSCEOLA COUNTY — Police have released the name of the man who drowned in Mud Lake on Tuesday.

William Comer, 76, left his home to go fishing on the lake around 9 p.m. on Monday. When he didn’t return by midnight, his wife went looking for him and found him face down in the water between his boat and the dock.

Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies, along with crews from Osceola County Emergency Medical Services and Evart Fire Department, responded to the scene and confirmed the man had died.

Although investigators are sure Comer drowned, Osceola County Undersheriff Justin Halladay said a toxicology report has been ordered as the man’s wife indicated he might have been drinking prior to going to the lake. It isn’t clear what caused Comer to fall into the water, but his death “was totally accidental,” Halladay said.
