Name of Marion man killed in buggy accident released by police

HIGHLAND TWP.  — Police have released the name of the man killed in Thursday's buggy accident in Highland Township.

Andrew Beachy, 19, of Marion, was killed when the Amish buggy he was operating was struck by a Chevrolet Cobalt driven by William Evans, 25, of Evart, according to a press release from the Michigan State Police.

Troopers from the Mount Pleasant Post were called to the crash at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, in the area of 80th Avenue and 19 Mile Road in Osceola County's Highland Township.

The preliminary investigation found Evans was traveling southbound when he hit Beachy's buggy, also traveling southbound.

Beachy was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant of the buggy. Evans was uninjured in the accident and alcohol was not a factor.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.
