Mud run, tractor pull, promise family fun

REED CITY — A two-day event at Nartron Airport in Reed City is helping summertime fun last a bit further than Labor Day Weekend.

Area residents of all ages will have the opportunity to attend the Crossroads Car Show and Swap Meet along with the Crossroads Street Tuck, Tractor Pull and Mud Drag event on Friday and Saturday.

“We’re trying to put on an annual event here,” said organizer Chuck Davis. “This is an opportunity that, if it starts going well, we can continue the event and others can start, too.”

The car show and swap meet will kick of the weekend with registration at 10 a.m. on Friday. Entry fees are $8 per car and the first 50 vehicles will receive dash plaques.

Door prizes, goodie bags and giveaways will take place throughout the show, and trophies for “Best of Show” and “People’s Choice” will be awarded at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Vendors who wish to sell items can begin setting up booths at 10 a.m. on Friday. Spaces are available for a $10 fee.

The street truck, tractor pull and mud drag event begins at 5 p.m. on Friday and at 9 a.m. on Saturday. A hook fee of $20 per class will be applied to all competitors. In the truck category, 10 classes are available, while 12 classes are open for tractors. Three classes make up the mud run event.

Attendees can choose to go to one event or both.

Concessions for hungry patrons will be available from members of the Lincoln Township Fire Department and the Reed City Fire Department, and a small fireworks display will take place after the pulls on Saturday night.

“(Co-organizer) Mike Saez and I have worked really hard to get this up and going,” Davis said. “It’s fun. I work like a dog to get it ready, but when you see people having a good time it’s worth it.”

Both events are a fun way for families to spend a day together for a low cost and without traveling a long distance, he said.

“We want people to come out,” Davis added. “If we have good weather, you never know what to expect. We could have 800 to 900 people. I’d like to see 2,000 people attend.”

Entrance to the car show is $5, and admission to the mud run, tractor pull and truck pull is $7. Children 5 years old and younger are free.
