EVART — Each Independence Day, thousands flock to Evart for the annual celebration fireworks. However, hosting the festivities is an expensive task.

To help raise funds for this year's summertime celebration, members of the Evart Chamber of Commerce are hosting its annual meatloaf dinner and silent auction event, which will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, at the Moose Lodge, located on U.S. 10 in Evart.

"We're trying to raise a lot this year," said chamber president Dan Joyce. "The fireworks are not cheap."

Members hope to collect at least $5,000 during the dinner to help with the $18,000 cost, according to Connie Douglas, a member of the chamber's board of directors.

For $7 per person, fundraiser attendees will receive a meatloaf dinner complete with sides, desserts and beverages. Children under 5 are free and carry-out boxes are available. They also will have an opportunity to participate in a 50/50 raffle and bid on a number of silent auction items donated by businesses and members of the Evart community.

Douglas said gift items, including certificates for massages, oil changes, home cleaning and salon services will be featured along with homemade craft items, baked goods and golf packages. A weekend retreat at a rental home on the river also is one of the larger prizes bidders can walk away with this year.

"We're excited about it," Douglas added. "We usually have a great turnout."
