Mathcounts team travels to Comerica Park following competition

MIXING MATH AND FUN: Reed City Middle School participated in the Mathcounts competition this year on the campus of Ferris State University. Eighteen middle school students practiced and prepared for the math competition for two months.

“The kids put in a lot of time and worked really hard to prepare," said math teacher and Mathcounts coach Jeremy DeVos. "It takes a great deal of extra work and dedication to be prepared for this rigorous competition.”

In its first appearance, the RCMS team did not place, but the students gained experience and represented the community well. To reward their hard work and effort, the middle school Mathcounts team took a trip to Comerica Park to participate in the Detroit Tigers Mathematics Education Day. While there, the students learned how math and baseball are related. After the program the students enjoyed a Tigers game. (Courtesy photo)
