Marion Pie Sale and Craft Show set for Oct. 31

MARION — Area residents have an opportunity to stock up on tempting pies and shop for distinctive gifts and seasonal decor at the Marion Pie Sale and Craft Show.

The highly anticipated annual event, sponsored by the women’s auxiliary of the Marion Fraternal Order of Eagles aerie 4087, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, in the Eagles meeting hall.

The homemade pies are baked and donated by auxiliary members who contribute a selection including cherry, blueberry, all-American apple and seasonal favorites like spicy pumpkin, savory mincemeat and rich pecan.

More than a bake sale, the show combines the pie sale with a roomful of exhibitors displaying art work and crafts created by more than two dozen talented artisans from Marion and surrounding communities.

Shoppers may choose from a wide variety of handcrafted items offering something for everyone, including jewelry, colorful quilts, scented candles, warm hats and mittens, handbags, Christmas ornaments, stained glass, aprons and kitchen accessories, home decor, and crocheted and knitted clothing, blankets and afghans.

A new feature for this year will be author’s row — local authors who display, sell and sign their books ranging from novels, children’s books, memoirs, self-help and travel.

According to event organizer and auxiliary member Jan Zeilinger, all funds raised are used to assist families in need at Christmas. The group donates food, clothing, toys and household items to local families.

“Around 200 or more people come to the show,” said Zeilinger. “We’re hoping to bring out a record number of shoppers this year because we have such an outstanding group of artists and crafters along with lots of delicious pies.”
