Marion Fair bustling in the 4H barns

Fair time: With a strong and enthusiastic focus on 4H activities and projects, the annual Marion Fair got under way this week with a lion's share of the excitement located in the small and large animal exhibits. As young 4H club members brought their live projects to be examined by exacting judges, weeks of preparation came to a head and participants nervously awaited the results. In the turkey judging competition, Amelia Ward was thrilled to be named Grand Champion in her field of endeavor. Amelia enjoyed her turkey project but admitted quite honestly, "They don't smell good." Indeed! Over in the arena, lamb judging was going strong with contestants putting their best foot forward while in the ring. The fair grounds, while lacking the traditional midway and carnival games and rides, was still bustling with activity and will be doing so until the event's wrap at week's end. Don't miss out on a chance to show local 4H youth your support with a visit to the fairgrounds. (Herald Review photos/Jim Crees)
