Marion Baptist Church Christmas program set for Dec. 13

MARION — A skit featuring a glimpse into the lives of two families and how they celebrate Christmas will vividly relates the miracle of the birth of Christ and the true meaning of Christmas.

Maintaining a tradition of more than 30 years, Marion Baptist Church will host its annual Christmas program at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13. Over the years, hundreds of area residents have looked forward to the event to usher in the holiday season with an inspiring message.

Everyone from Marion and the surrounding communities is invited to attend a production of"The Best Christmas Ever," a musical play featuring a cast of children in speaking parts and both an adult and children’s choir singing Christmas songs and carols which bring the story to life.

As the performance unfolds, the audience watches the dramatic differences in how the Gimme family and the Giving family observe Christmas.

Members of the Gimme family think only of themselves and the gifts they covet while the Givings see neighbors in need and show how helping others brings happiness and fulfillment of the Christmas spirit.

The play was written by church member Peggy Hoard who is also the director. Hoard, who was born and raised in Marion, has written numerous plays for the church.

Highlights of the program include soloist Taylor Brothwell singing "No Room" and cello soloist Ethan Pritchard playing several selections.

Taking on other key roles are Betty Fox, pianist; stage and props, Brent Pritchard; sound and lights, Floyd Ankney and narrator, Jack Johnston.

“I hope the play will inspire everyone who watches as much as working with the children inspired me,” said Hoard. “All the kids and everyone who helped with the play worked so hard to bring a message that shows Christmas should be centered on the birth of Christ and the spirit of giving.”

Following the program, sandwiches, snacks and desserts of the season will be served. There is no admission charge.
