Man pleads guilty to driving while under influence, killing Evart woman

OSCEOLA COUNTY — A Chase man is scheduled to be sentenced next month for his role in a 2012 car accident which resulted in the death of an Evart woman.

Nathan Edward Neiman, 27, of Chase, reached a plea agreement with the Osceola County Prosecutor’s Office on Monday, pleading guilty to one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death. A trial in Osceola County’s 49th Circuit Court had been scheduled for this week had he not accepted the plea.

The accident occurred the morning of May 3, 2012, on U.S. 10 near 100th Avenue in Osceola Township. Neiman was driving eastbound, when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line, striking a vehicle driven by Darcy Lynn Gray, 24, of Evart. Gray died from injuries sustained in the accident.

According to court documents, Neiman was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the accident.

The maximum penalty for operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death is 15 years in prison, but a sentencing agreement as part of the plea states Neiman will likely serve between 19 and 38 months in jail. Neiman is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, August 15.
