MECOSTA, OSCEOLA COUNTIES — The Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District (MOISD) Family Engagement Team hosted its first book walk of the school year on Thursday, Oct. 14, at Eastwood Early Childhood Center.

Families came together to build social connections, while experiencing the book, "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Shell."

Serving 200 people within the community, according to a press release, the purpose of the event was to increase literacy exposure and to demonstrate different ways to make literacy learning fun and exciting for kids.

During the event, there was a live narrator and interactive activity for each page station. Families also were given the opportunity to create their own trail mix and received a copy of the book, along with activities to help recreate the interactive experience at home.

There will be a book walk each month hosted at different MOISD schools throughout the school year. Next up is the Barryton Book Walk from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7, at Barryton Elementary. The public is invited.
