BIG RAPIDS — After a special workshop meeting, the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate Schools Board of Education members know what qualities they want the district's next superintendent to have.

"Basically, (Thursday) night we came up with the selection criteria," said Marie Wilkerson, MOISD board president. "We put our ideas together as to what we'd like to see in a candidate."

In addition to the board's thoughts, members considered the results of a survey posted on the district website when creating their criteria.

The position posting is now live on the MOISD website, but the board is only accepting applications from current employees of the MOSID or the six local districts it serves: Big Rapids Public Schools, Chippewa Hills School District, Crossroads Charter Academy, Evart Public Schools, Morley Stanwood Community Schools and Reed City Area Public Schools.

"The deadline for application will be at the end of the month, and then at the next board meeting we'll have time to discuss the applicants and decide which applicants we'd like to interview," Wilkerson said.

Interview candidates will be selected at the board meeting on Nov. 13, with first round interviews taking place on Dec. 9 and second round interviews on Dec. 12. If interviews need to be canceled due to inclement weather, Dec. 19 is a fall-back date.

"We're hoping by the end of December we will have made a selection," Wilkerson said. "Once we have a candidate we're interested in and we know is accepting, they could be in place right away or they may have to finish their current position until the end of the year and be hired at the beginning of next year."
