MMCAA, partners hosting baby shower May 6

EVART — Expectant mothers and parents with infants can receive information to help their child's development at an upcoming special event.

Mid Michigan Community Action Agency is hosting the Osceola County Baby Shower from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, at the Community Building at the Osceola County 4-H/FFA Fairgrounds, located at 101 Recreation Ave., Evart.

The free baby shower will provide expecting mothers and parents with information to help their child develop while growing, said MMCAA Communications Specialist Victoria Kukla.

"It's really aimed at pregnant women and also parents with children under 1 year old," she said. "There will be resources we have on how they can help their children develop, as well as the resources we have and the resources available in the community."

Booths of visiting agencies will be open from 10 to 11 a.m. Presentations about baby, infant and toddler development and guided breastfeeding will take place from 11 a.m. to noon.

The only requirement, Kukla said, is for participants to be residents of Osceola County.

"We normally encourage children at our events, but we prefer parents do not bring children who are mobile because we want mothers and parents to benefit from the information," she said.

Those who wish to attend should register, though Kukla said they will continue to register residents until the baby shower begins.

"If they arrive the day of the baby shower, they should have their driver's license with them," she said. "There's going to be a lot of useful information, food and prizes."
